BMW to launch new electric SUV based on Vision Neue Klasse concept

BMW is gearing up to introduce a new generation of electric vehicles based on its dedicated Neue Klasse platform, which promises to offer improved performance, efficiency and design. The first model to use this platform will be the 2025 BMW iX3, a successor to the current iX3 that shares its underpinnings with the conventional X3.

The 2025 BMW iX3 will feature a sleek and futuristic design inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse concept that debuted in September 2023. The concept showcased a radical departure from BMW's current styling language, with a horizontal kidney grille that merges with the headlights, slim LED taillights and a minimalist interior.

While the concept was a sedan, the iX3 will be a crossover that will compete with other premium electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 e-tron and Mercedes EQB. The iX3 is expected to have a spacious cabin thanks to the longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs enabled by the electric architecture. It will also feature advanced technology and connectivity features, such as a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and voice assistant.

The 2025 BMW iX3 will also benefit from the improved powertrain and battery technology of the Neue Klasse platform. The platform will support various configurations of electric motors, ranging from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive and from single-motor to dual-motor setups. The battery capacity and range will also vary depending on the model, but BMW has said that it aims to achieve up to 600 km (373 miles) of WLTP range with its future EVs.

The 2025 BMW iX3 is expected to debut in late 2024 or early 2025 and will be produced at BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. It will be followed by other models based on the Neue Klasse platform, such as the i3 Sedan, i3 Touring and i4 Coupe. BMW has also hinted at developing high-performance M versions of its electric vehicles in the future.
