LOOK: Upcoming railway system to connect seven train lines in Greater Manila Area
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is planning to launch a new railway system merging the seven existing and upcoming ones that will cater to six provinces, slated to be fully operational by 2030.
With the Greater Capital Region Railway System, DOTr aims to connect at least seven railway systems including LRT, MRT, and the upcoming Metro Manila Subway and North-South Railway Commuter Project.
As per the map, it will travel through six provinces namely Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila projected to be fully operational by 2030.
The DOTr is also building the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) extension, which is now 81% complete, as per Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
Its partial operations are expected to begin by the fourth quarter of 2027 which will have a route from Clark to Valenzuela. Its main depot is located at the Clark Freeport Zone in Mabalacat, Pampanga which will serve as the main spot for heavy maintenance, and light repairs, and will house the Operations Control Center which will oversee the management operations of the entire line.
“Ang dream natin ‘yong train system natin will be operational similar to the train systems in Japan and other developed countries,” Bautista said, as per an ABS-CBN News report.
The NSCR is also planned to be interconnected with LRT Line 2 and MRT Line 3.
“In the future, we’ll make it a point that the passengers from the MRT can go to the stations of LRT. Isa ‘yan sa pinag-aaralan kaya we want to privatize the operations and maintenance of MRT 3,” Bautista added.
