KL City must come clean on players’ salary arrears, says Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: Fahmi Fadzil, the patron of Kuala Lumpur City FC, has urged the KL Football Association (KLFA) to come clean on salary arrears owed to its players.

According to Bernama, the communications minister urged the KLFA management to be fair to their players and resolve the unpaid salaries issue.

Fahmi said he had tried to assist the players and had even conveyed his views to KLFA secretary-general Nokman Mustaffa, though certain “basic issues” remain unresolved.

“The management must come clean. I am not a part of the executive council, I am just a patron, and I am only trying to help.

“But it is difficult to do so if many basic issues in the KL FA are not addressed,” he was quoted as saying, without elaborating on the ongoing “issues”.

The Lembah Pantai MP urged the association’s management to hold fresh elections at its upcoming annual general meeting in order to resolve the issues plaguing KL City.

“I have tried to help and sympathise with the KL City players. I met with the players in the dressing room to help them at the very start, when they were almost relegated and not allowed to sign imported players.”

Two days ago, KL City midfielder Paulo Josue claimed that he had not been paid since December and had been relying on his savings to make ends meet.

He also claimed that some of his teammates had not received their salaries since March. Despite seeking talks with the team’s management, he said they were fed with “empty promises”.
