Immigration detains 46 undocumented migrants in Negri raids
SEREMBAN: The Immigration Department has detained 46 undocumented migrants in raids here and in Kuala Pilah.
Negri Sembilan Immigration chief Kennith Tan Aik Kiang said his officers screened 84 foreigners during two raids conducted between 9pm Monday (June 10) and 2am Tuesday (June 11).
"We inspected 12 premises during the raids and 46 foreigners, 13 of them women, were detained after they were found to have violated Immigration laws," he said in a statement.
Tan said the 46 arrested comprised 24 Myanmar nationals, nine Indonesians, five Indians, four Bangladeshis, three Sri Lankans and one Pakistani.
"Those detained have been sent to the Immigration depot while we wrap up investigations," he said.
Tan said the department also directed the owners or caretakers of the premises where the foreigners were found to be present at the Immigration Department to assist in investigations.
"Immigration would also like to remind employers and the public not to hire or harbour any undocumented foreigner as action can be taken against you.
"We also welcome information from the public and this will be treated in the strictest confidence," he added.
