HxH: Dumbest Heroes, Ranked

HxH: Dumbest Heroes, Ranked

The world of Hunter X Hunteris brimming with heroes of all shapes and sizes. While most of the story focuses on Gon Freecss, Killua Zoldyck, and Kurapika's adventures, many other heroic figures have come in and out of prominence as the story demands it. Each of these heroes has their own skill set, with some being way more powerful than others.

This variance also stretches to intelligence. While some heroes are super-geniuses, others are well below par. Of course, there are different types of intelligence, so the series features many characters who, despite excelling in one area, struggle in another, which means that some heroes, even mighty ones, end up entangled in silly situations due to their lack of forethought or subpar emotional intelligence.

Alluka Zoldyck Is An Isolated Child

Everything We Know About Hunter x Hunter Return

Alluka is in an interesting situation, as they are possessed by Nanika, a terrifying creature from the Dark Continent. This obviously impedes Alluka's life and educational development, something only made worse by how the rest of the Zoldyck family treats them, leaving them emotionally isolated and stunted.

Early on, it was said that Alluka is uncontrollable and doesn't feel emotions. Around Killua, they are pretty much the opposite, being warm and friendly. However, they're also childish and overly trusting, as seen when Killua takes Alluka to heal Gon. During this trip, it is clear that Alluka doesn't fully understand the gravity of what they are doing and doesn't grasp the pain that Nanika is causing with their wishes and demands. But, it's hard to fault them for this, as they are a traumatized child. One who has spent a lot of their life cut off from the world, which has hampered their schooling and emotional growth, something only made worse by their parents failing in their role.

Biscuit Is Skilled But Has Hang-Ups

Biscuit is a mighty warrior who can easily defeat anyone who gets in her way. Her main issue is the emotional problems stemming from her issues with her appearance, which can often lead to her acting sub-optimally. One way this presents is her desire to avoid displaying her authentic physical form if possible, meaning that she extends battles unnecessarily, putting others at risk as she does. In Hunter X Hunter, fights can change in seconds, making it risky to keep them going longer than needed.

Plus, she's easily wooed when someone praises her more traditionally feminine form. While this has yet to come back to haunt her, this is an unmistakable weakness that is open to exploitation by unscrupulous actors. Biscuit's failure to come to terms with or address her issues is a silly move, though it's hard to call her truly foolish due to how good she is in other aspects.

Leorio Paradinight Is Clever But Too Impulsive

Best Killua Quotes In Hunter X Hunter

Leorio's desire to become a doctor to help those in need is commendable, and his anger about everything requiring a lot of money is understandable. However, it's clear that, over the years, Leorio's material obsession has seeped into and corrupted his actual personality, as his desire for money, combined with his reckless and impulsive disposition, has led to him putting himself in several unwise situations.

For instance, after seeing Hisoka massacre all but a handful of test takers, Leo runs away, only to return a few minutes later with a wooden sword, despite him clearly not being strong enough to scratch Hisoka, let alone kill him. This leads to Leo getting pounded, only being saved by Gon distracting Hisoka. Later, during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election, Leorio loses his temper again and punches Ging. This would have been a legendarily terrible decision if other people in the room were not already tired of Ging, but Leorio had no way of knowing this at the time.

Knuckle Bine Is Kind But Absent-Minded

Knuckle Bine is a good-hearted man overflowing with compassion. He is a friend to animals and always goes out of his way to help those in need. In fact, even talking about injustice or hurting animals can cause Knuckle to cry, making him one of the kindest souls in the world ofHunter X Hunter.

However, this compassion is also a major flaw, as Knuckle is compassionate to the point of immaturity. Plus, he often acts without thinking, leading to things frequently going wrong for him. This is most obviously seen during the Chimera Ant arc, where he tries to fight Gon and Killua but fails due to not specifying when or where he wants to fight them, forcing him to wander the streets and lurk in parks, making himself and the Hunters look very foolish. Plus, when he does fight Gon at first, he underestimates the boy, leading to him getting injured, which adds to his foolishness.

Kurapika Is Blinded By Grief

Most Rewatchable Hunter x Hunter Episodes

The last survivor of the Kurta Clan, Kurapika, is very smart with a vast knowledge of many things. Alas, Kurapika's trauma about the loss of the Kurta Clan has damaged his emotional intelligence, which leads to him making terrible and often silly decisions, especially when he is reminded of his former clan.

This is best seen when Kurapika flies into a rage upon seeing Uvogin's spider tattoo. This leads to him nearly ruining the mission as he becomes overly fixated on capturing the man and then starts to attack him when he doesn't get the information he wants. While the fallout from this is quickly resolved, it shows that Kurapika could get himself in a lot of trouble if there are no people around to keep him in check, as he is utterly blinded by his grief and rage. This proves that being academic isn't enough in the world of Hunter X Hunter, since the universe can throw unexpected surprises at even the best Hunters.

Kite Dies Due To His Bad Planning

A student of Ging Freecss, Kite is a very serious warrior who will make tough choices when the situation demands it. However, he does make several unwise decisions during the story, some of which have far-reaching ramifications. One of the biggest missteps Kite makes is treating Gon too harshly, as his training merely involves throwing Gon at powerful creatures without accurately assessing his current abilities. While it could be argued that this training would lead to Gon becoming the mighty warrior he would later be, there were clearly better and safer ways to train Gon and his friends.

Plus, it's this failure that led to Kite's death. Kite feels Neferpitou's En to estimate their strength while on a mission to take down the Chimera Ants. However, this leads to the group getting ambushed. While Kite gets Gon and Killua out safely, he has to give his own life to do so—something that wouldn't have been necessary with better planning.

Gon Freecss Is Understandably Naive

Despite being the lead character in Hunter X Hunter,Gon is far from the most intelligent of the heroes, but this is justifiable and part of his charm. At the start of his adventure, Gon was only about twelve years old and had a very sheltered upbringing, spending most of his time exploring the woods and wilds around his home. Because of this, Gon isn't well-educated and doesn't understand how the wider world works.

Gon's impulsive nature most shows this, as he frequently does things without thinking them through, leading to him and his friends being put in dangerous situations. This is notably seen during the 287th Hunter Exam, as rather than simply taking the win when Hanzo refuses to kill a child, Gon still insists on fighting despite clearly not being able to win, leading to Hanzo knocking him out for several hours, a pointless act that shows that Gon isn't very streetwise either.

Ging Freecss Has No Emotional Intelligence

Things You Didn't Know About Yoshihiro Togashi, The Creator Of Hunter X Hunter

Ging is one of the world's best archaeologists and the creator of the popular Greed Island game, proving he is a genius in some fields. However, while he excels at academics, he lacks in other areas, especially emotional intelligence. This is shown by his terrible handling of his relationship with his son. Believing he could return to Whale Island after ten years away, drop a young child off with his grandmother, and then vanish again with no planned return date and still have the child or grandmother like him was folly and proof that Ging's emotional intelligence is severely lacking.

However, to be fair to Ging, he is aware of his failures as a father, as he admits to them in the tape he leaves for Gon. Then again, anyone with above-average emotional intelligence would realize making a tape for your estranged son that admits you failed as a father and don't really want to see them is likely not the best way to handle an emotionally charged situation.

Isaac Netero Lets Personal Ideals Get In The Way

Becoming the chairman of the Hunter Association isn't an easy feat, so the fact that Isacc earned the title suggests he is very clever. However, Isacc's personality would often contradict this reading as he was childish and overly playful, spending his time indulging in silly flights of fancy rather than doing the work that clearly needed doing. This style of leadership led to the Hunter Association being less effective overall.

On top of this, some of his choices were obviously illogical and doomed to failure. This is clearly seen in his handling of Meruem, where his desire to have a challenge led to him making choices that pleased him but endangered the world. It is also seen in his decision to make Pariston Hill the association's vice chairman merely because Hill's unpredictability excited Netero despite the man plainly not being fit for office, further reducing the association's effectiveness.

Kanzai Has Massive Gaps In His Knowledge

It's fair to expect that a member of the Zodiacs would be intelligent. However, Kanzai bucks this expectation as he has massive gaps in his knowledge. On top of this, he is also very childish, making his inclusion in the Zodiacs feel very out of place, especially when compared to the other members. Some of his knowledge gaps are very surprising and suggest that he may have had no or limited formal schooling. For instance, he admits to not knowing the kanji for the word election, despite kanji literacy being common and taught in schools.

Plus, he admits to not knowing who King Nasubi is, even though every other child in the story acts like this is common knowledge. On top of this, Kanazi often lashes out when annoyed, such as when Kanazi gets frustrated during a discussion and attempts to attack Pariston, a fight that Kanazi clearly can't win and one that is very inappropriate considering the importance of the meeting.

Hunter x Hunter

Gon Freecss aspires to become a Hunter, an exceptional being capable of greatness. With his friends and his potential, he seeks out his father, who left him when he was younger.
