Christina Aguilera Signs With 5020 Records, Ending 26 Years With RCA

Christina Aguilera has officially signed to 5020 Records, leaving her longtime label RCA Records of 26 years, Variety can confirm.

Fans have been speculating over the past few months that the powerhouse singer had parted ways with RCA, the label that she's called home for the entirety of her career, after 5020's logo appeared on her official website. A representative from Sony Music confirmed that she is now under 5020, a new Latin label based out of Miami that touts a roster featuring Nathy Peluso and Kenia Os.

5020 is under Sony Music, so while she's no longer with RCA, she remains with her longtime parent company. On RCA's website, Aguilera has been removed from its artist pages, which signals that a musician is no longer with the imprint.

Aguilera's management, indie publicity firm and RCA did not respond to requests for comment.

The 43-year-old was initially signed to RCA after Ron Fair, then senior vice president at the label, listened to her demo tape of Whitney Houston's "Run to You" in 1997. At the time, RCA reportedly spent $1 million on writers, producers and voice lessons to develop her into the singer she would inevitably become.

Her eponymous debut arrived in 1999, thrusting her into the spotlight on the back of the chart-topping singles "Genie in a Bottle," "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)." "Christina Aguilera" bowed atop the Billboard 200, and set the stage for the Spanish-language follow-up "Mi Reflejo" the following year.

Throughout her decades-long career, Aguilera has released eight studio albums under RCA, most recently with 2018's "Liberation." In 2022, she put out a pair of Spanish-language EPs - "La Fuerza" and "La Tormenta" - in the lead-up to the full-length Spanish album "Aguilera" that dropped in September of that year. All three of those projects released via Sony Latin. "Aguilera" and its songs received eight Latin Grammy nominations, as well as two Grammy nominations including best Latin pop album.

Though it's unclear what Aguilera plans to do next, it's safe to assume that she'll continue venturing into Latin music under 5020 given its roster. She's currently on her second Las Vegas residency with "Christina Aguilera at Voltaire," which resumes from its month-long break with a show on May 31. That residency has dates stretching into late August.
