Bella Hadid Wore a Keffiyeh Dress to Cannes Film Festival 2024 — See Photos
Over the years, Bella Hadid has worn some of her most iconic looks at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2024, she’s already turned heads with a sheer number, a Bridgerton-esque look, and now, a keffiyeh dress.
Today, May 23, Bella Hadid stepped out in Cannes wearing a dress made out of the same pattern and material as a Palestinian keffiyeh. Hadid wearing the keffiyeh, which is typically worn as a scarf, is an ode to her father, Mohamed Hadid, and his family’s homeland, Palestine. The traditional garment is rich in symbolism, including a fishnet pattern to nod to the seas, olive leaves to honor the land's agriculture, and more.
Hadid's keffiyeh dress is from Michael and Hushi’s February 2001 runway show. It features a keyhole neckline tied with a bow, an asymmetrical waist, and a cascading ruffled tiered skirt.
Michael and Hushi’s vintage pieces are coveted by many fashion aficionados due to their significance in pop culture, especially Sex and the City, which makes Hadid’s find all the more special. Her look also happens to be quite similar to a keffiyeh scarf top worn by Carrie Bradshaw in one episode from the same designers.
To complete her look, Hadid wore matching red kitty heel mules with knots. As for accessories, she opted for earrings and rings from sustainable jewelry brand Monica Vinader and ‘90s-style rectangular sunglasses. She wore her hair in her signature slicked-back bun in true Bella Hadid style and tied it with a puffy crochet white scrunchie.
Whether at college campuses or Cannes, the keffiyeh has become a symbol of protest and solidarity throughout the years, and Hadid is continuing that legacy. While Hadid's outfit is certainly a nod to her heritage, the keffiyeh has seen more visibility since the October 7 Hamas attacks and Israel’s continued bombardment on Gaza.
Hadid also recently honored her roots with the launch of Orebella, her perfume line inspired by her family and Arabian fragrances. Hadid’s efforts are a prime example of fashion and beauty holding a deeper meaning.
