Where and when are the next Olympics?
The Paris 2024 Olympics may have only just finished but already anticipation is building for the next summer Games.
There’s just 18 months to go before the next edition of the Winter Olympics which is being held in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026.
But if athletics, gymnastics, swimming, cycling and everything in between is more your thing then you’ve going to have to be a little patient.
So where and when will the next Olympics take place? And what about the Games after that? Here’s what you need to know:
Where are the next Olympics being held?
The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America.
The International Olympic Committee confirmed LA had won their bid to stage the Games back in September 2017, at the same time that 2024 Games were awarded to Paris.
Both cities had wanted to host the 2024 event, before LA agreed to wait an extra four years after the IOC made guarantees on funding.
It will be the fifth time that the summer Olympics have been held in the US and the third time in LA after 1932 and 1984. St. Louis and Atlanta played host in 1904 and 1996 respectively.
It will therefore make LA the third city to have hosted three Olympic games after London and Paris.
The closing ceremony in Paris saw the official handover of the Games to the Californian city, with a little help from Tom Cruise and Snoop Dog.
Additionally, the hosts for the 2032 Games have also been decided: Brisbane, Australia.
The bidding process for 2036 is also underway, with Nusantara (Indonesia), Istanbul (Turkey) and Santiago (Chile) among those to have confirmed their bid.
