Queensland city battered by record-breaking rainfall

Queensland city battered by record-breaking rainfall
For Rockhampton farmers, it's a beautiful sight. An uncharacteristic rain band making its way over central QLD and dumping everything it could carry. Rockhampton, which recorded around the 72 mill mark, which was actually its heaviest August rain since 1988, almost three times its August average rainfall. The deluge inundating the Capricorn Highway east of Rocky, but drivers were still trying. In Gladstone. The rain arrived early and didn't leave. It's been a bit of a different story in Brisbane today. We've had the overcast weather with some light drizzle throughout the day, but certainly not the heavier falls that are predicted to arrive tomorrow. Even for more lower lying areas like Brisbane, the Gold and Sunny Coast, we could see falls of 30 to 60 mil across the area during Wednesday. A hazardous surf warning has been issued between the Capricornia and Sunshine Coast for tomorrow. While boaties need to keep in mind there are wind warnings across the coast until Thursday. BLM has issued some warnings that we are facing some potential storms and we need to take that advice seriously. Cam Inglis, 9 News. Straight to weather expert Gary Young. Bring now Gaz How long is the heavy rain going to last? Well, Melissa, as Cam just mentioned, while it was light rain today, it's been gradually increasing. That'll do So overnight. I think sort of early tomorrow morning we'll see the most consistent falls and that will persist all throughout Wednesday, probably easing by late tomorrow afternoon or this time tomorrow evening. I want to show you the radar from early this morning. You'll see the heaviest of the rain was up around the Wide Bay, Bernard. It pushed down through the Sunshine Coast, made its way into Brisbane late this afternoon and will continue to track South around the Gold Coast. There is some better news in the longer range. Forecast towards the end of the week, but I wanted to give a big shout out to all the Year 6 students from Saint Lawrence College where I visited today. They helped me put my weather forecast together which enabled them to officially cancel their athletics carnival for tomorrow. But I'll have your full forecast local details coming up very shortly.
