Cost-of-living support to be at the centre of Queensland’s state budget.
A budget to ease hip pocket pain. We know because Queenslanders have told us that right now they are struggling and so addressing the cost of living sits at the heart of this budget. Treasurer Cameron Dick says his fifth financial blueprint for the state will bring relief for those doing it tough. Queenslanders need a firm hand on the tiller, they need people who can get them through these difficult times. The budget was endorsed by Cabinet and supported by the Labour caucus ahead of its release tomorrow. In the papers is funding for a nightlife commissioner, with the role to work with local businesses and the music industry as Queenslanders cut back on discretionary spending. That's having an impact on the number of nights they go out. We already know the budget will include a trial of 50 Cent public transport fares, more vouchers for children's sport, reduced car rego fees and an increase to the stamp duty threshold for first home buyers. With the state election just months away, the stakes are high for the third term Labour Government. But the Premier today insisted the focus of the budget is on cost of living relief for Queenslanders, not the October poll. The focus here hasn't been on October, the focus here has been on now and on the future. The State Opposition Leader has pledged an LNP government would honour the funding commitments made in Labour's budget.
